Build The Foundation- 7 things to Work On- #17 in (Un)Common Writing Strategies

by- Tom Kubrak

When you have one of those “rare” writing days that you get in an absurd-amount of writing in, it feels pretty damn good.

But why is it so hard to duplicate that the next day and then the next etc?

It doesn’t make sense, but if you’re of the ‘I-know-I-Can-do-better-but-how-type of person then you’ll realize that it’s only a few things that you need to change to be able to write consistently day in and day out.

What could be the problem is…you’re “personal daily foundation” is all off. Every day it’s different and every day you can’t seem to control anything in your life.

It’s time to change that though.

The Things to Remember:

1- Water- You must have plenty of water throughout the day to maintain that energy you need. Find what amount of water you need on a daily basis and be regimental about drinking that amount daily.

2- Food- whether you’re a big eater(like me) or relatively a good eater, regardless everyone needs to eat but… eating the right foods is what it’s about.

3- Workout- Schedule your workout like an important appointment with your agent or publisher. Do not take this lightly because this directly affects your work output.

4- Again, schedule this meditation or visualization session like an important meeting

5- Daily plan- find a time to sit down in the beginning of the day to go over what you need to do that day

6- Don’t eat too late and too much- Some people, unlike me, are good with their eating but it took me a while to figure out that my best writing days were the ones when I had a relatively early dinner and didn’t snack too late.

The One Writing Thing to Try to Stick to:

1- Find your writing Time- Stick to it. and write during that time frame everyday. Try it out for a week or two and if that doesn’t work, find a new time.
